BLF Land Acquisition
Cholla Point – Former Mitsuuchi Family Trust Property
Funding for the $2.4 million purchase of this 18 acre property of California wetland and sage habitats was made possible through grants from the California Coastal Conservancy ($1.7 million) and the California Department of Fish and Game’s Wildlife Conservation Board (WCB – $700,000). The WCB funding was made possible by Section 6 funds provided by the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Pre-acquisition funding support for such activities as a property appraisal, brokerage, legal services, site assessments, and other related services was provided by a grant of up to $50,000 from the California Coastal Conservancy.
Planning has already begun for development of an Open Space Easement, habitat restoration and trails for public access.
This acquisition will further protect Batiquitos Lagoon Ecological Reserve from development and add a key piece of land for public trails and habitat restoration. Our goal for extending the North Shore Trail through to El Camino Real is one step closer to reality.
